Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers - a fictional Christian romance book
Review rating: 3.5 Stars ⭐
Review: This book is a retelling of the book of Hosea in the bible. The way the author has written this book in a modern and relatable way was really well done and I highly commemorate the author for her work.
The undying love of Hosea for Angel despite all her wrong doings made you realise the real purpose of love, it's not for selfish reasons or to make you feel better, it's for the other person, being there for them even though its hard. This is so representative of God and how he loves us and continued to chase after His people even after they turned away from Him again and again.
For me, being an big romance reader, the chemistry and emotional attraction between the two characters felt flat and made it hard for me to sense that love between Hosen towards Angel. Although I understand that this is a retelling and the story was attempting to portray the unconditional love, not the emotional undertone and attachment, but I felt it would have pushed the point stronger to see his heartbreak for her and to feel the pain He felt everytime she left him again.
Overall this was an enjoyable book to read, even for non Christians, and especially for those that feel uncertain about why things are happening to them in life or what it all means. The movie is also fantastic and I would recommend watching it!
